Tips for Lighting Small Spaces
Small spaces can feel cosy and charming — or dark and cramped. The right lighting really does make a difference. Whether you live in a tiny apartment or want to brighten up a quiet corner, here are some practical tips to bring more light (and atmosphere) into a compact space.
1. Layer your lighting
Avoid relying on a single overhead light. Instead, combine different types: ambient lighting (like a ceiling lamp), task lighting (for reading or working), and accent lighting (a soft glow on a side table). It adds depth and makes the space feel more balanced.
2. Choose light, natural materials
Lampshades made from linen, cotton or jute help diffuse the light gently. They don’t just soften the glow — they also add texture and warmth to your space.
3. Use a mirror
A simple but effective trick: place a lamp near a mirror. It reflects the light and instantly makes the room feel more open and spacious.
4. Go vertical
In smaller rooms, surfaces fill up quickly. Wall-mounted lamps or tall, narrow floor lamps help you make the most of vertical space — without adding clutter.
5. Choose warm light
Cool white light can feel harsh, especially in a smaller room. A warm LED bulb (around 2700K) gives a softer, more welcoming feel. We’re always happy to include one with your order, just let us know.
6. Let your lamp be a statement
In a compact space, every object plays a role. So choose a lamp that not only lights up the room but also reflects your style. Something with character, that feels like you.
